The tissue around the nail is red, swollen and painful and drainage of pus is a typical consequence of inflammation.<\/p>\n<p>Ingrown toenails can be prevented. Do not cut your toenails too short and cut them straight across. Rounded edges are more likely to grow into the surrounding tissue. Like with other feet problems, comfortable footwear that does not press on your toes is obligatory, since prolonged pressure may cause the toenails to grow sideways.<\/p>\n<h3>Fungal infections<\/h3>\n<p>Fungal infections are among the commonest toenail diseases.<\/p>\n<p>Nail fungus may cause your nail to thicken, turn yellow or discolour. If the infection is left untreated, a painful purulous inflammation may develop. The infection mostly starts at the nail bed and root, spreading further from there. In most cases, this is caused by the fungus Trichophytom rubrum.<\/p>\n<p>Although anyone can get a fungal infection, there are some higher risk groups.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Being older (owing to reduced blood flow, slower growing nails)<\/li>\n<li>Athletes (prolonged stay in closed footwear with heavier perspiration during physical strain, common shower areas)<\/li>\n<li>Weakened immune system<\/li>\n<li>Diabetes or psoriasis<\/li>\n<li>People with heavy perspiration<\/li>\n<li>People with peripheral circulation issues<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Depending on the scope of infection, the treatment is either applied locally with special creams or with a combination of effective essential oils.<\/p>\n<p>If required, the doctor may prescribe a medication therapy for the entire body, with medications that should be administered for a couple of days.<\/p>\n<p>The treatment of fungal infections may be lengthy, so preventive actions are advisable.<\/p>\n<p>Keep your feet clean, tidy and dry. Use protective footwear in common shower areas. Wear only your own footwear, do not share it with anyone else.<\/p>\n<p>From time to time, apply Venofamed stick\u00a0treatment to keep your nails healthy and to preserve their normal colour.<\/p>\n<h3>Diabetic foot<\/h3>\n<p>Due to poor circulation in diabetics the nails grow slower, which facilitates the development of fungal infections. Therefore, preventive actions are necessary in order to prevent persistent infections that will require a prolonged treatment. Although persevering, fungal infections can be successfully treated and the affected section of the nail can sometimes even be surgically removed. It is important to take the prescribed therapy as recommended by your doctor, to treat the nail for instance with Venofamed stick\u00a0and to wear comfortable and breathable shoes.
