Pain caused by pressure ulcers

Many people suffering from pressure ulcers feel pain. The patients with deep stage III and IV pressure ulcers are reported to suffer more pain caused by pressure ulcers, than the ones with surface ulcers.

The pain has to be assesses right at the beginning and checked regularly. Accurate and detailed documentation is needed in order to assure that all the patients suffering from painful pressure ulcers are adequately treated.

The pain is assessed with respect to its location, intensity, the way of pain relief and its effects.

Is the pain caused by something specific?
When does the pain start?
When does the pain get the worst?
Does anything help with the pain?
Can the pain be attributed to an inflammated pressure ulcer?
Osteomyelitis?

Pain can be a serious obstacle for the normal daily routine and result in reduced activity of the patient affected.
